when a boy named billy allen loses his mother, the cartwrights take him home until relatives can be reached. but billy is waiting for his father, a prisoner who breaks out of jail. hoss becomes friends with billy who doesn't know his father is a criminal. when his father commits a murder it's down to hoss to bring him in.
