one of the greatest spaghetti westerns ever made, and without a doubt the most influential, sergio corbucci's django is a violent and compelling vision of the west.
originally banned in several countries (and rejected by the uk censors until 1993), it stars franco nero (die hard 2, the virgin and the gipsy camelot) as django, the mysterious lone drifter who, dragging a coffin behind him, arrives in a bleak, mud-trenched town. he saves the life of a prostitute, maria (loredana nusciak) who is being abused by both a group of mexican bandits and by ku-klux klan-like fanatics under the command of a corrupt major. loyal to none, django is caught in the middle of the violent feud between the two groups, and, armed with his devastating revolving machine gun, django will endure mutilative violence as he fights for his life
django is a landmark piece of cinema and its everlasting influence is acknowledged in the works of film makers such as john woo, tarrantino alex coz. it is equally revered by both film critics and western genre fans and can now finally be seen in all its intended glory for the first time on dvd: fully restored and transferred from the original camera negative.
this is without doubt the most complete, beautiful and definitive version of django ever seen and features stunning cinematography by enzo barboni (who went on to direct they call me trinity and its many sequels) and a superb score by oscar-winning composer luis enriquez bacalov (il postino, kill bill 1 &, 2)
