on his return from the vietnam war, norman hopper (john saxon) an american officer and native of atlanta georgia discovers that he has contracted, as have all the men in his unit, a monstrous disease which turns its victims into cannibals. he tries with all his might to resist his terrible impulses which have already engulfed his friends. but soon the flesh eating trio are unleashed in atlanta's sewers and streets spreading the deadly disease far and wide.
