Released originally in France as L'Evenement le plus Important depuis que l'Homme a Marche sur la Lune (The Most Important Event Since Man Walked on the Moon), this robust farce demonstrates director Demy's (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) ability to make a workable comedy out of the least likely of sources.Marcello Mastroianni (La Dolce Vita) plays Marco, a male Parisian driving school owner who goes to see his doctor and complains of feeling run down, and much to his consternation and surprise is pronounced four months pregnant...The role-reversal comedy has become a staple of mainstream comedy (think Junior) but unsurprisingly Demy's tilt at the genre is a notch above. Mastroianni excels in the central role, blending comedy and pathos whilst Catherine Deneuve (Belle du Jour, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) lends characteristically sterling support. Michel Legrand - Demy's regular collaborator - supplies the effervescent songs.
